Choosing the Perfect Halloween Costume
The perfect Halloween costume takes quite a bit of preparation. The savvy Halloweener begins planning months in advance in an effort to outdo all of their friends with the most of the moment attire and picture perfect look. Let’s face facts; everyone wants to have the most talked about costume that is still talked about weeks after the party.
There are four main categories of Halloween costumes: Classic, or scary, Halloween slut ever dreaded and loved by college women the world over, Homemade, Mom’s favorite, and Humorous. By breaking down the types of costuming, your Halloween budget, and your personality type, the wide world of choosing the perfect Halloween costume can seem a little less overwhelming.
Here are some of the best costumes I have seen from each category to give you an idea so you can start thinking about your own costume. As zombie movies are getting more and more popular, zombie costumes are getting better and better. I am amazed at how professional party-goers take the level of zombie make up application, going as far as blood staining expensive clothing to prove they just fed off of the living. The most entertaining zombie costume I have seen was a zombie Jesus, worn by a bearded party-goer clad in a toga and berkinstocks- all things considered, Jesus did rise from the dead.
Next, the Halloween slut, a fine line category for costumes. Technically in this category you can really turn any profession, animal, classic Halloween character, or historical figure (which I personally think would potentially be the funniest – “I’m sexy Ben Franklin DUH!”) into a Halloween Slut costume. Just one general guideline, make sure your outfit covers the goods. Especially if you’re going to a dance party. You’ll thank me later.
Homemade costumes offer affordable alternatives for parents, college students, and anyone on a budget. They also allow for a lot more creativity and personal design in the final outcome. One that sticks out in my mind is the late night pyramid scheme infomercial guy. I attended a Halloween party recently, and low and behold, the host was wearing a Goodwill suit covered with yellow question marks, a borrowed bowtie, round dork glasses, and had even gone as far as to call the toll free number to get the free literature as a prop.
Humorous costumes can include celebrities, movie characters, and everything else you can think of. One of the funniest costumes I have seen was “Dirk Diggler” from Boogie Nights done perfectly right down to the dancing. Whatever costume you choose, dress to impress and Happy Halloween!
